In the fast-paced city of San Francisco, dating hundreds of people may seem like an impossible task within a single lifetime. However, a new solution has emerged that eliminates the need for overwhelming messaging and introductions – a dating bot.
According to Whitney Wolfe Herd, the future of dating lies in this innovative approach. Interestingly, the image above may appear to depict two wrestlers gearing up for a fight, but it is actually an illustration representing the two artificial intelligence (AI) entities we mentioned earlier.
Bumble, the popular dating app founded by Herd, is embracing AI technology. During a discussion about Bumble’s future on Bloomberg Tech, hosted by Emily Chang, Herd explained how AI will impact dating and platforms like Bumble. She emphasized that the platform will utilize AI to foster more healthy and equitable relationships.
Herd envisions a near future in which individuals can engage in conversations with their AI dating concierge. This virtual assistant will assist users in navigating relationship dynamics and addressing dating concerns. Users will be able to openly discuss their insecurities and receive helpful advice, particularly in situations such as post-breakups or commitment issues. The goal is to enhance the overall dating experience by improving communication skills.
Some dating apps have already begun incorporating AI features to facilitate engaging conversations. Love Genius, for instance, employs AI functionality to craft captivating messages and dating profiles.
However, Herd has more exclusive plans for AI implementation. During the Bloomberg summit, she shared her ambitions, causing the audience to burst into laughter. Herd revealed that Bumble has been utilizing AI and machine learning algorithms for several years, even before it became a popular trend. The platform is still in its early stages of evolution, suggesting that it holds immense potential for further advancements.
Recent data from AI platform Pollfish indicates that in the United States, one out of every three men between the ages of 18 and 34 rely on ChatGPT for relationship advice. While Bumble currently holds a 26% market share, securing the second position in the US dating app market, the leading app, Tinder, only holds a slight one percent advantage with a 27% market share.
