Coinworld reported:
A former Bitcoin developer has refuted claims that he is the true creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, following an HBO documentary that labeled him as the mastermind behind Bitcoin.
Peter Todd claims that the documentary falsely identified him as Satoshi and believes that knowing the true identity of Bitcoin’s founder is meaningless, despite the cryptocurrency’s thriving development. The real identity of the founder remains shrouded in mystery.
“False Accusations”
Todd criticizes the documentary’s producers for accusing him of being Satoshi, calling it a false accusation. He laments being thrust into the public eye by the film, despite consistently denying his role as the creator of Bitcoin.
According to Todd, the HBO filmmaker used the accusation of being Satoshi to promote his documentary, stating that the director needed a way to draw attention to his film.
Todd condemns the director for exaggerating the evidence in the film and sparking conspiracy theories about the Bitcoin founder. He explains that he could never be Satoshi as he was occupied with his studies and work during Bitcoin’s early days.
Furthermore, Todd claims that he was unaware of the documentary during its development and only became aware of its content upon its release.
Bitcoin Documentary
On October 8th, HBO aired a documentary titled “Money Power: Bitcoin’s Mystery,” claiming to reveal the true identity of Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto, who has evaded identification for years.
The film, conducted by filmmaker Karen Hoback over a period of three years, presents evidence purporting to expose Satoshi Nakamoto’s identity.
The documentary suggests that Todd is the enigmatic creator behind the popular cryptocurrency. Todd continues to refute this claim, stating that he was misrepresented in the film.
Todd Goes Into Hiding
Following the two-hour documentary’s release, Todd has decided to go into hiding, fearing for his personal safety. He revealed in an interview that he has received numerous emails from people asking him for money. He further disclosed that one person had sent him 25 emails requesting financial assistance.
Considering the harassment the Bitcoin creator would face, Todd now understands why the real Satoshi Nakamoto wanted to remain anonymous.
The Search Continues
With Todd debunking his role as the Bitcoin founder, the search for Satoshi Nakamoto’s identity will persist and remain a subject of speculation. Over the years, many individuals have been identified as the creator of Bitcoin, thrusting them into the public eye and often resulting in adverse consequences such as invasion of their privacy.
