CoinDesk reports:
Cross-border payments company Nium has appointed Spencer Hanlon as its Chief Operating Officer. Hanlon, who previously played a key role in expanding Nium’s travel business, will be responsible for expanding the company’s operations globally.
Industry veteran
His extensive experience, including leadership roles at British Airways and AirPlus International, is expected to enable him to navigate market dynamics and drive company expansion. Hanlon is reported to be taking over from Pratik Gandhi.
In an official press release, Nium’s founder and CEO Prajit Nanu praised Gandhi’s leadership in building an outstanding culture and expressed confidence in Hanlon’s abilities to build on this foundation.
Nanu mentioned, “Spencer has been an integral part of Nium for the past three years, demonstrating outstanding cross-functional leadership and a deep understanding of scaling. Appointing Spencer as COO was a natural decision. His vision and dedication are invaluable to our success, and I believe under his leadership, we will continue to achieve outstanding results.”
His tasks include streamlining customer onboarding processes, strengthening global technical services, and taking strategic initiatives to consolidate Nium’s position in the fiercely competitive fintech space.
Leading global initiatives
Commenting on his appointment, Hanlon expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity to lead Nium’s diverse teams around the world. Hanlon played a key role in Nium’s acquisition strategy and subsequent development in the virtual card market in Asia, with a focus on prioritizing customer-centric approaches in all operations.
He said, “In my three years working with Nium, I have witnessed the success of this forward-looking acquisition as it has evolved into a critical part of this incredible expansion of cross-border payments. Now, having the opportunity to lead an incredibly dedicated, smart, and fun-loving team at one of the most respected fintech companies in the world is both an incredible honor and a truly exciting career.”
Similarly, in April of this year, Nium announced several changes to its leadership team and business partnerships. The company appointed Alexandra Johnson as the newly established Chief Payments Officer and expanded its existing partnership with identity verification platform Trulioo.
These appointments are part of Nium’s efforts to strengthen its global payment network and enhance compliance. Johnson will oversee the company’s global banking and payment operations in her new role. She brings extensive experience in the banking and payment industry, having previously held leadership positions at Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase.
