Atlanta former mayor and member of the Coinbase Global Advisory Board Keisha Lance Bottoms will join Joe Biden’s 2024 US presidential campaign.
Lance Bottoms confirmed that she will join Biden’s campaign team as a senior advisor. She served as the mayor of Atlanta from 2018 to 2022 and joined the Coinbase Advisory Board in April 2024 after resigning from her position as a White House advisor in 2023.
According to The Hill on June 27, Lance Bottoms will continue to stay with Coinbase during Biden’s presidential campaign, which is expected to end in November when American voters will participate in the election. The former mayor stated that cryptocurrency is a “non-political and unifying issue.”
It is not yet clear whether Lance Bottoms will provide advice on cryptocurrency-related issues for Biden’s campaign. Reports suggest that the US president is considering accepting cryptocurrency donations from supporters and meeting with legislators to discuss digital assets.
On June 26, prior to the debate between President Biden and Donald Trump, Lance Bottoms spoke at one of the Coinbase Stand With Crypto events held in Atlanta. The advocacy group called on users to contact CNN hosts Jake Tapper and Dana Bash to address cryptocurrency-related issues during the debate.
During the Stand With Crypto event in Atlanta, Lance Bottoms stated, “Atlanta has a thriving black blockchain community.” “Cryptocurrency provides an opportunity for those who often lack bank accounts and banking services to strengthen financial freedom.”
In February, former US Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney stated that he would resign from the Coinbase Global Advisory Board if President Biden nominated him to represent the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. When Coinbase established the board in May 2023, Maloney was one of its initial advisory members.
Since the launch of Stand With Crypto by Coinbase in 2023, the organization’s Political Action Committee (PAC) has gained over 1 million supporters and has been actively supporting or opposing candidates at state and federal levels. Coinbase is one of the main supporters of the Fairshake Super PAC, which has launched attack ads against many politicians deemed anti-cryptocurrency on Stand With Crypto.
