Despite the absence of any mention of cryptocurrencies in last night’s first debate of the 2024 US Presidential election, meme coins based on the candidates’ portraits had a strong reaction.
Last night, millions of Americans tuned in to watch the first of two debates between Republican candidate Donald Trump and incumbent Democratic President Joe Biden.
The cryptocurrency positions of these two candidates have been a hot topic of debate in the digital asset community. While Trump has proclaimed himself as the “Cryptocurrency President,” Biden’s campaign has garnered attention for his perceived hostile stance towards the industry and close ties to Gary Gensler.
Despite the dialogue surrounding cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies were not mentioned during last night’s debate.
Nevertheless, two meme coins based on the candidates’ similarities had a dramatic response to the debate.
MAGA (Trump), a meme coin that recently crashed amid rumors of Trump launching an official meme coin, surged 33% from its 24-hour low of $7.22 to a 24-month high of $9.61 within hours of the broadcast. Meanwhile, Jeo Boden (Boden) plummeted 58% from a 24-hour high of $0.1715 to a low of $0.07204.
At the time of writing, BODEN is valued at $0.07917, marking a 37% drop for the day. Trump, on the other hand, has made adjustments and is currently valued at $7.24, experiencing a 19% decline during the same period.
