An anonymous US intelligence official claimed that this action is aimed at supporting Republican candidate Donald Trump and smearing Democratic vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
The official discussed Russia and other countries’ use of artificial intelligence to influence the election scheduled for November 5th during a briefing. The AI content from Moscow is said to be synchronized with the ongoing campaign promoting Trump as a candidate. It is said that these contents include stories intended to discredit Harris and the Democratic Party.
The intelligence official also pointed out that the materials released by Russia contain conspiracy theories, which in turn indicates that Russia is attempting to manipulate people’s opinions to some extent.
Although other countries are also doing similar things, Russia’s use of artificial intelligence in election interference has been identified as the most extensive. The intelligence official revealed these incidents to the media, but did not provide detailed information or specify the applications used.
