Gary Gensler, the Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), attended a hearing titled “Oversight of the Securities and Exchange Commission” before the House Financial Services Committee. A memorandum from the staff of the Financial Services Committee, released on September 19, indicated that the financial regulatory body has yet to clearly define digital assets as securities.
The SEC has entered the meeting chamber of the House Financial Services Committee to participate in a hearing on “Oversight of the Securities and Exchange Commission.” SEC Chairman Gary Gensler was originally scheduled to appear before the Senate Banking Committee on September 25; however, that hearing has been postponed, according to Fox Business reporter Eleanor Terrett.
A part of the hearing emphasized the financial regulatory agency’s crackdown on digital assets and cryptocurrencies.
