Last week, Virtuals Protocol, built on Base, launched its AI agent platform. It combines AI and tokenized economy, allowing users to create, own, and monetize AI agents.
Inspired by memecoins, it transforms AI agents into interactive, community-driven digital assets that provide utility and entertainment in games, social platforms, and virtual worlds.
Essentially, Virtuals creates a Pump.fun platform for AI agents.
Virtuals supports the permissionless creation of AI agents with token-based ownership.
Each agent is launched with a supply of 1 billion tokens, giving holders governance rights and economic incentives. The agents are multimodal, operating on text, voice, and visual interfaces, enabling rich and personalized interactions.
The protocol allows token holders to shape agent development and share in the revenue, enabling holders to speculate on the success of various AI agents.
VIRTUAL is the native token of the protocol, providing support for trading and governance.
Similar to FriendTech’s liquidity pool paired with FRIEND tokens, agent tokens are paired with VIRTUAL in a liquidity pool with a 10-year lock-up period. This lock-up period helps ensure stability and prevents “rug pulls”.
Furthermore, the income generated by agents (collected in VIRTUAL) is used for token buybacks and burning, creating deflationary pressure and aligning incentives for developers and token holders.
