Coinbase has been designated as the official partner of the Canadian Football League (CFL) and the 111th Grey Cup, according to a report by the Coin World website. As part of the agreement, Coinbase will sponsor the 111th Grey Cup, which is set to take place in Vancouver in November, as well as the highly anticipated coin toss event.
The aim of this partnership, according to the top cryptocurrency exchange, is to increase the adoption of cryptocurrencies in Canada. It is reported that approximately 5 million Canadians, or 13% of the population, are involved in the cryptocurrency space. The CFL’s partnership with Coinbase marks the first official entry of a major Canadian sports league into the cryptocurrency industry.
Lucas Matheson, CEO of Coinbase Canada, commented on the partnership, saying, “The CFL is one of Canada’s most renowned sports leagues, and we are thrilled to collaborate with them. Our goal is to deepen the connection between Canadians and cryptocurrencies, providing them with the tools and opportunities to participate in the digital economy, thereby enhancing economic freedom across Canada.”
Following the partnership, these entities will invite CFL fans to participate in the crypto economy through Coinbase’s promotional activities. Fans who make their first transaction on the Coinbase app or website will reportedly receive $25 worth of Bitcoin as part of this collaboration.
In addition, fans who scan QR codes will have the chance to win Bitcoin prizes, regular season tickets, and even a $50,000 Bitcoin grand prize, with the opportunity to participate in an all-expenses-paid trip to the 112th Grey Cup in 2024.
The Grey Cup is set to have increased fan participation, including a halftime show featuring the Jonas Brothers. With a history of over 100 years, the Grey Cup is one of Canada’s most famous annual sporting events.
