Netflix has shut down its AAA game studio, Netflix Games, in the United States. This closure has led to the departure of key employees who previously worked on games such as “Halo”, “Overwatch”, and “God of War”. The closure of the studio is attributed by some to the media platform shifting its focus to smaller games.
The streaming platform had previously entered the gaming world in an attempt to grab a share of the multi-billion dollar industry. The media company ventured into the gaming industry in 2021 and has been dedicated to developing and expanding its intellectual property to cater to its fans. The expansion into gaming led to significant growth of the studio, recruiting talent from the gaming industry over the years to strengthen its team.
