Coinbase has been designated as the official partner of the Canadian Football League (CFL) and 111, according to a report by Coin World. As part of the agreement, Coinbase will sponsor the 111th Grey Cup and the highly anticipated coin toss event, which will take place in Vancouver in November.
The aim of this partnership, as stated by the leading cryptocurrency exchange, is to increase the adoption of cryptocurrencies in Canada. It is reported that approximately 5 million Canadians, accounting for about 13% of the population, are involved in the cryptocurrency space. The CFL’s collaboration with Coinbase marks the first official entry of a major Canadian sports league into the cryptocurrency field.
Lucas Matheson, CEO of Coinbase Canada, commented on this partnership, saying, “The CFL is one of Canada’s most renowned sports leagues, and we are excited to collaborate with them. Our goal is to deepen the connection between Canadians and cryptocurrencies, and provide them with tools and opportunities to participate in the digital economy, thereby enhancing economic freedom across Canada.”
Following the collaboration, these entities will invite CFL fans to participate in the crypto economy through promotional activities on Coinbase. Fans who make their first transaction on the Coinbase app or website will receive $25 worth of Bitcoin as part of this partnership.
Furthermore, fans who scan the QR code will have the chance to win Bitcoin prizes, regular season tickets, and even a $50,000 Bitcoin grand prize, along with the opportunity to join an all-inclusive trip to the 112th Grey Cup in 2024.
The Grey Cup will see increased fan participation, including a halftime show featuring the Jonas Brothers. With over 100 years of history, the Grey Cup is one of Canada’s most prestigious annual events.
